Founded in 1885, Nitta Corporation is a high-tech company that supplies products and engineered systems to OE manufacturers worldwide. Its main products include engineered flat conveyor belts, high-speed conveyor systems, isolation bearings, polishing pads, etc.

In 1971, Nitta established Unitta Company with Uniroyal Inc. (now Gates Rubber Company) of the United States. Gates Corporation then undertook the Japanese joint venture Unitta Company, Ltd. to manufacture timing belts for automotive and industrial customers. In 2002 Unitta Corporation changed its name to Gates Unitta Asia Company.

Gates Unitta, a joint venture between Gates Corporation and Nitta Corporation in Asia, manages and coordinates all existing power transmission business activities of Gates in Asia.
