heat pump creates new demand
The types of products using heat pump compressors have developed and expanded, including RACs, PACs, VRF systems, and even rotary, scroll, screw, and centrifugal chiller systems. Heat pump compressors are also used in the field of water heaters.
The advancement of heat pump technology has led to new applications of compressors in clothes dryers and other equipment. ATW heat pumps have gained recognition as a renewable energy system, and their demand is growing, especially in China. Even in Europe where preferential purchase policies are reduced or cancelled, ATW heat pumps are gradually penetrating the market as energy-saving and environmentally friendly products. Many manufacturers have developed ATW heat pump compressors with sufficient capacity to operate effectively in cold regions.
Regulations and standards New EU F-gas regulations
In order to control the emission of fluoride greenhouse gas (F-gas), the European Union passed an F-gas regulation and set targets for refrigeration and cold storage applications. In 2015, the focus is to limit the GWP of HFCs used in household refrigerators and freezers to below 150. By 2020, other restrictions will be set, and the GWP of HFC used in refrigeration equipment with a carbon dioxide equivalent emission of 40 tons or more shall not exceed 2500. In the new refrigeration and refrigeration equipment, except for those below -50°C, commercial enclosed refrigerators and freezers and all fixed refrigeration and refrigeration equipment will be subject to the new regulations. Existing refrigeration and refrigeration equipment (maintenance and repair), except for those small military equipment (<40 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emission equivalent) used for temperatures below -50 ℃, will be controlled in accordance with the new rules. HFCs with a GWP of more than 2500 can still be used during recycling and reuse until 2030. In 2022, with the exception of certain cascade models, new refrigeration and refrigeration equipment, commercial enclosed refrigerators and freezers, and large commercial refrigeration equipment (>40 kW) will not be allowed to use HFCs with a GWP value greater than 150.
Improve energy-saving level
Driven by the need for greater energy-saving performance and lower GWP refrigerant regulations, the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) industry is facing increasing complexity. This not only involves balancing costs, application types, energy efficiency, climate, flexibility and comfort, but also involves new energy efficiency standards.
Governments and industry associations have issued energy-saving laws and regulations. These laws and regulations differ in different regions and different working conditions and rating standards, making the pursuit of excellent partial load efficiency more complicated. So far, on average, no more than 20% of the current system, including chillers and rooftop units, meet the new standards.
European ecological design
The Eco-Design Directive stipulates the environmental performance regulations that improve energy-related products in the EU through eco-design.
A related standard is EN12900: 2013, Refrigeration Compressors-the expression of rated conditions, tolerances and manufacturer performance data.
As the requirements of the Eco-Design Directive continue to upgrade, manufacturers need to develop products with higher energy-saving performance.
China's heat pump compressor standards
The rapid expansion of the heat pump water heater market in China has increased the need to establish a regulatory environment. The GB/T29780-2013 electric motor-compressor standard for fully enclosed heat pump water heaters for household and similar purposes took effect on May 1, 2014 as a national voluntary standard. The standard focuses on the evaluation of heat pump water heater compressors under different working conditions, and is applicable to rotary, scroll and reciprocating compressors.
