Matsuo Electric Co., Ltd. was established in Japan in 1949, specializing in the manufacture and sale of tantalum capacitors, film capacitors and circuit protection components. Matsuo was the first company in Japan to manufacture and sell film capacitors in 1957, and began manufacturing and selling tantalum capacitors in 1959.
In 1994, Matsuo began manufacturing and selling the world's smallest chip-type circuit protection components at the time. Matsuo currently manufactures and sells tantalum capacitors as its core products, as well as other circuit protection components and film capacitors.

The company operates three business segments. The Tantalum Capacitors segment manufactures and sells tantalum solid electrolytic capacitors and wet-type tantalum electrolytic capacitors, the Circuit Protection Components segment manufactures and sells miniature fuses and surge absorbers, and the Other segment is engaged in the manufacture and sale of film capacitors and aluminum electrolytic capacitors.
