Advantages and disadvantages of closed motor and open motor of air compressor

Air compressor enclosed motor: Protection grade: IP44, IP54, IP55

　　 Advantages:

　　1) Wide application range. The air compressor driven by a closed motor can be used in places with poor environment. For example, there is a lot of dust and the fibers are flying. Factories and mining industries with corrosive gas and other surrounding areas.

　　 2) The motor maintenance workload is small. Because the motor shell is completely enclosed, all kinds of dust, moisture and corrosive gases cannot enter the motor, so the motor has a small maintenance workload and is easy to use.

　　 Disadvantages:

　　1) The price of the motor is higher;

2) Large weight and volume: After the motor shell is fully enclosed, the heat dissipation performance of the internal windings becomes worse. In order to control the temperature rise of the motor within the specified range, the size of the heat sink must be increased. Therefore, the motor has a large size and weight weight.

　　3) The internal fault of the motor is difficult to detect.

　　4) The motor is heavy, which is not good for the air compressor that bears the weight of the motor.

　　Open type motor protection grade: IP23

　　 Advantages:

　　1) The price is lower;

　　 2) Smaller size and lighter weight, which is more beneficial to the operation of the air compressor;

　　3) Strong heat dissipation capacity, insulation is not easy to age;

　　4) The internal fault judgment is intuitive.

　　 Disadvantages:

　　1) The maintenance workload is slightly larger;

　　2) Cannot be used in harsh environments.

　　 The difference in the size of the two motors used by the air compressor: For example, if the center height of a closed motor is 315mm, the center height of an open motor of the same power is 280mm. Correspondingly, the size of the connecting method of the same air compressor is also different. But the above difference does not affect the overall performance of the air compressor. Therefore, for most industrial and mining enterprises, air compressors with open-type protection motors can be used.
