What are the characteristics of the filter material glass fiber
As the most widely used filter material in current high-efficiency and sub-high-efficiency filters, glass fiber has the following characteristics:
(1) Surface properties. The surface area of the glass fiber depends on the fiber thickness. In the production process of certain types of filter materials (such as filter paper), the glass fiber does not expand, so the fiber diameter, cross-sectional geometry and corresponding specific surface area remain unchanged. This dimensional stability is a necessary condition to ensure that the filter material has both low resistance and high efficiency under large flow conditions.
(2) Mechanical strength. The strength of the glass fiber is related to many conditions such as the glass composition of the raw material, the fiber molding method, the presence or absence of defects on the fiber surface, and the physical and chemical interaction with the surrounding medium.
Glass fiber is hydrophilic and will reduce the surface energy after being absorbed by water. In humid air and water, the tensile strength of glass fiber will decrease by 15% to 30%. If it can eliminate its adsorption of moisture in the air, glass fiber will have considerable strength no matter in high or low temperature. In order to improve the performance of glass fiber, spray adhesive materials are often used in the glass fiber production process. This not only enables the fibers to be lapped and formed, but also changes the fiber properties, so that the moisture absorption rate of some products is less than 1%. The water content is greater than 98%, and it has good chemical stability.
(3) Flexural resistance and abrasion resistance. The glass fiber used as bulk filling filter generally has a diameter ranging from 8 to 19 μm. From the point of view of filtration efficiency, the finer the fiber diameter is, the better, but the too-fine glass fiber has very low strength and is easy to break and cause blockage. Therefore, the filling factor should not be too large, generally 6%-10%; in order to prevent application For fracture and desquamation, corresponding protective measures should be taken when making the filter material, such as spraying a protective layer, attaching a protective net for the bottom lining, etc.
(4) The filter material made of glass fiber has good elasticity, and its dust holding capacity is often doubled compared with other chemical fiber filter materials.
