In 1984, AVX Corporation Asia was established in Hong Kong. In 1990, AVX merged with Japan's Kyocera Corporation, thus combining the expertise, development experience, know-how and market capabilities of two world giants in passive microelectronics technology.

In 1996, a factory was established in Shanghai. In 1997, a warehouse was set up in Tianjin. In 1998, AVX acquired Thomson-CSF’s (TPC) Passive Components Division, adding ferrite devices, film capacitors and power capacitors to its existing portfolio.
