Popular Science What is the difference between the cooling and dehumidification modes of air conditioners
It is raining in many places across the country, and the air conditioner, as a must-have item for people to enter the summer, is self-evident. Today's air conditioners have very powerful functions. In addition to conventional cooling, heating and air supply, many air conditioners also have a dehumidification mode. And what is the difference between the cooling mode and the dehumidification mode? Which of the two is more power efficient? Next, we will explain the similarities and differences between the air conditioning cooling and dehumidification modes.
Principle introduction
Refrigeration: The indoor evaporator of the air conditioner (that is, one part of the indoor hanger or cabinet of the air conditioner we see) takes away heat through the vaporization of the refrigerant, and cools the indoor air flowing through the evaporator fins. The vaporized refrigerant is compressed and liquefied by the compressor outside to release heat, and transfers the heat to the outdoor air through the heat sink, so as to continuously circulate to achieve the effect of cooling the indoor air.
Dehumidification: In the cooling process, the temperature of humid air will drop significantly after passing through the evaporator of the air conditioner, and the air humidity will be in a state of supersaturation. Excess water vapor precipitates in the form of condensed water and condenses on the fins of the evaporator, that is, condensation. When the cooling mode reaches a certain equilibrium state, the air humidity will drop to a certain level.
Condensation refers to a phenomenon in which water vapor condenses on objects with relatively low temperature when the degree of saturation in the air is reached.
The similarities between air conditioning dehumidification and refrigeration
The cooling mode of air-conditioning operation must remove water vapor while reducing the air temperature. The dehumidification mode of air-conditioning operation must reduce the air temperature while removing water vapor. Therefore, whether it is air conditioning cooling or dehumidification mode, reducing air temperature and removing water vapor are inseparable.
The difference between air conditioning dehumidification and refrigeration
Refrigeration: The main purpose is to reduce the air temperature, while removing water vapor and appropriately reducing the air humidity. When the cooling mode is selected, the temperature and wind speed of the air conditioner can be adjusted. The air conditioner will be cooled according to the manually selected temperature and wind speed to achieve the purpose of lowering the air temperature. At the same time, the air humidity will be appropriately reduced during the process.
Dehumidification: The main purpose is to reduce the air humidity, while also reducing the air temperature. When the dehumidification mode is selected, the air speed of the air conditioner cannot be adjusted, and the temperature of some air conditioner brands cannot be adjusted. The air conditioner will dehumidify according to the preset temperature and humidity to achieve the purpose of reducing air humidity. At the same time, it will also blow out cold when removing water vapor. The air reduces the air temperature.
Power consumption measured
Regarding the power consumption, the air conditioner in my home has been always on except for a power outage since mid-June. According to the power trend, it can be seen that the power of the air conditioner has been between 420W-600W. During this period, the cooling and dehumidification modes of the air conditioner were mixed, and I did not see which mode has a particularly obvious power saving effect. According to the actual observation, the relationship between power fluctuations and time and outdoor temperature is closer.
For example, at night during the rainy season in the south, the indoor temperature is already very low, but the humidity is high. At this time, the dehumidification mode is very suitable. At this time, the power consumption of the air conditioner dehumidification mode may be greater than that of the cooling mode, because the air temperature is already very low, so the air conditioner in the cooling mode may not run at full speed.
At noon in the dry environment in the north, the indoor temperature is very high, but the humidity is very low. This is the right way to turn on the cooling mode, because the temperature needs to be reduced quickly to achieve a suitable environmental state. However, if the dehumidification mode is turned on, the temperature or wind speed of the air conditioner cannot be considered to be controlled, and although the temperature drops, it takes a long time.
to sum up
To put it simply, the cooling and dehumidification modes of the air conditioner will reduce the temperature and humidity of the air, but the focus is different. Regarding which of these two modes saves electricity, it is also a complicated comparison project. Because the air temperature and humidity ratio of each environment is different, it is impossible to get an exact comparison result. So choose a suitable air conditioning mode under suitable conditions, and always ensure a comfortable environment experience in the hot summer. This is the greatest significance of air conditioning.
