Fairchild Semiconductor initially researched and produced transistors. They pioneered a method of commercializing integrated circuits. Fairchild's main products are power semiconductor devices for applications such as switching power supplies.

In 2016, Fairchild was acquired by ON Semiconductor (after 2022, Onsemi). On April 10, 2016, Fairchild's headquarters was relocated from San Jose to Sunnyvale.
