For the sake of better performance, smaller wear, and longer service life of the linear guideway, proper lubrication is entailed. This article will discuss the functions, characteristics of lubricant and tips for lubrication.

Functions of Lubricant

Lubricants can:
1. Reduce friction between moving parts, thus preventing coking and reducing wear;
2. Form a film on the rolling surface to reduce the stress acting on the surface and prolong the rolling fatigue life;
3. Apply a film to the metal surface to prevent rust.

Characteristics of Lubricant

Good lubricant generally has the following characteristics:

1. High film strength;
2. Low friction;
3. High wear-resistance;
4. High thermal stability;
5. Corrosion resistance;
6. High rust resistance;
7. Low dust and moisture content;
8. No significant change in the consistency of the grease after repeated stirring.

Tips for Lubrication

Linear guides mainly use grease or lubricant for sliding surface for lubrication. In order to give full play to the function of the linear guide, please provide lubrication according to the specific conditions of use. Even with linear guides with sealed baffles, the internal lubricant gradually leaks out during operation and thus, regular lubrication is needed.
Lubrication intervals vary depending on usage conditions and usage environments. Add the same type of grease to the grease nipple or lubrication hole provided on the linear guideway. Mixing different types of greases can result in increased consistency or other problems that damage the linear guideway.

In addition, there are a few more points to pay attention to during use.
1. Regularly check the lubricant supply system and the condition of the film, and adjust the supply valve. Keep enough film and good lubrication on the linear guide surface to avoid dry friction.
2. Use wear-resistant glue to repair the bite and strain on the surface of the linear guideway. Scrape to restore the flatness and surface roughness of the linear guideway to the original accuracy requirements.
3. When using mechanical brings out no distinct effect under heavy load, choose hydraulic linear guideway lubricant with appropriate viscosity.
4. The rise of the working temperature of the lubricant is an important factor for its oxidation. In order to slow down the speed of oxidation, cool the return oil of the machine tool to prevent the formation of oxidative colloids.
Regularly replace the lubricant and detect the acid value index. Judge the oxidation degree from whether the organic acid content in the oil increases, so as to prevent the formation of oxidized gums and crawling.
