What you need to know about the electrical connection of Copeland refrigeration compressors

What you need to know about the electrical connection of Copeland refrigeration compressors Supply voltage and terminals Please pay attention to the direction of the terminals in the junction box (single-phase: R, S, C; three-phase: T1, T2, T3). In order to ensure the normal start-up and operation of the Copeland refrigeration compressor, the power supply voltage cannot be lower than 10% of the Copeland compressor rated voltage. Starting characteristics of single-phase scroll compressor Single-phase scroll compressors use permanent sub-capacitor motors (PSC) and do not require an auxiliary starting device in most applications. In some applications (such as low voltage at start-up), auxiliary start-up devices such as start-up capacitors and auxiliary relays are needed to help start

Rotation direction of three-phase scroll compressor Scroll compressors can only compress in one direction of rotation. Single-phase compressors always start and run in the correct direction (except for momentary power failures). The rotation direction of the three-phase compressor is determined by the phase sequence of the power supply, so there is a 50% possibility that the refrigeration compressor will "reverse". During on-site installation, the compressor rotation can be judged in the correct direction according to the decrease in suction pressure and the increase in discharge pressure. In addition, if the refrigeration compressor is reversed, the compressor noise is abnormal and the operating current is significantly lower than normal operation. Short-term reverse rotation is not harmful to the compressor, but long-term reverse rotation will damage the compressor. The equipment manufacturer can set the phase sequence protection module in the control loop to ensure that it will not operate if the phase sequence is incorrect.

Instantaneous power failure Instantaneous power failure (power failure time less than 0.5 seconds) may cause the rotation direction of the single-phase pressure scroll compressor to change. After re-calling, the compressor will continue to run in the reverse direction for several minutes until the compressor motor protector is activated. This has no effect on the compressor. After the motor protector is reset, the refrigeration compressor will restart and run in the correct direction. Emerson recommends using a relay that can sense a momentary power failure. When a momentary power failure occurs, lock the compressor for two minutes and allow the compressor to restart. This relay is not required for three-phase compressors. High voltage resistance test The motor of the refrigeration scroll compressor is in the lower part of the housing. After the refrigerant is filled in the system, the motor may be immersed in the refrigerant liquid. When the refrigerant liquid level in the casing is high, because the conductivity value of the refrigerant liquid is higher than that of the gas or lubricating oil, the high voltage resistance test may show a higher leakage value. This phenomenon will occur on all compressors where the motor is immersed in liquid refrigerant, and there is no hidden danger. To reduce the leakage value reading, run the system for a short time, and ensure that no refrigerant liquid returns to the refrigeration compressor housing before retesting.
